New trash collection fines start in Hampton July 1

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Violators of Hampton’s rules for trash and recycling collection will start being fined starting July 1.

Through Hampton’s new policy, first-time violators will get a warning, but second violations will come with a $50 fine. Subsequent violations will result in a $75 fine.


Hampton city leaders first announced the new fines earlier this year to help control the cost of trash collection for taxpayers.

Here are the general guidelines and what to look out for from the city:

General Guidelines 

Trash Toter

Trash items must be bagged inside the bin.

Yard Waste

Recycling

Do not bag recycling. These items are OK to recycle:

Bulk

Hampton bulk waste is collected weekly on your trash day. 

Hazardous Items

These items should not be put in the trash but taken to a hazardous waste collection. View the schedule here (PDF)

Unable to Move Your Toters?

The city will collect toters from the backyards of people who are elderly or disabled. Use the form here or call 757-727-8311 to request the service. 

A new fine system will be implemented July 1, 2023.
