HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Police said they are investigating a homicide after one person was shot on Woodland Road in Hampton on Wednesday evening.
Police dispatch said the call came in at 11:26 p.m. for a shooting in the 100 block of Woodland Road near East Mercury Boulevard in the Phoebus area of the city.
When officers arrived, they found De’Quan Markel Studwell, 26, of Hampton, suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicated the victim was in a verbal argument when the suspect shot him and fled the scene before officers arrived.
The suspect, 21-year-old Jahmee Harris of Hampton, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police said the motive and circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
