“I want to be a role model” Hampton coalition hosts 3rd Annual Youth Fest for kid entrepreneurs

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Kid entrepreneurs had a chance to show off their business during the third annual Youth Fest.

The Greater Aberdeen Community Coalition (GACC) set up at the West Hampton Community Center, 1638 Briarfield Road from 10 a.m. to 4p.m. The festival is all about boosting confidence and creativity.

Jordynn Springs, the 10-year-old owner of Beanie’s Bracelets, has been making bracelets for several years.

“My stepsister, she was making bracelets, and then my cousin started making bracelets. That’s when I wanted to make bracelets,” said Springs. “Of course, I’m the youngest in the group. So, I’m going to follow the oldest. I started making them. They stopped and I kept on going and now I’m this far.”

The festival challenges kids to pitch their products to sellers.

“I really like that you have the chance for kids to sell their stuff… it’s easier sometimes than online,” said Springs.

“The Adventures of Keven’s world” is a two-book series about chores and bullying. Author, Keven Pugh III, also writes songs and sells clothing items called “Keven’s World.”

“Some kids look up to people like Ryan’s world or FGTeeV. I want to be a role model to [show] the kids [as] they grow up to be a positive person and kind person,” said Pugh.

His dad is also a sports coach, the dad and son duo plan to write a total of 10 kids comic books.

“I want to create it for positivity for kids to change the world,” said Pugh III.

Judges will check out each business and award a $500 cash prize.
