HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – NFL quarterback and Hampton native Tyrod Taylor’s charity served families on Monday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
In a tweet, Taylor urged families to “pull up and grab a turkey and all your fixin’s.”
Monday morning, NFL star and Hampton native Tyrod Taylor left his mark where he grew up. His foundation partnered with Kroger to help those in need.
Cars were lined up at Darling Stadium off Victoria Boulevard as everyone waited patiently for a turkey to be dropped off in their car.
Trina Taylor was one of the volunteers getting soaked, but with a smile.
“I think all the turkeys were gone in less than an hour,” said Trina Taylor.
Kroger provided 200 turkeys and fixings to go along with it — that’s double the number of birds they gave away at last year’s event.
“We had a line throughout the stadium that [was] here early, so we’re really happy to be involved, “said James Menees, the Corporate Affairs Manager for Kroger Mid Atlantic Division.
The event was a ray of sunshine in the middle of a rainstorm, moving their mission of lending a helping hand one step further.
“To be able to give back, paying it forward, being a blessing to somebody else is what it’s all about,” said Trina Taylor.
Trina Taylor says this is a tradition they plan to keep going year after year.
