NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Roads Transit is partnering with Virginia Beach-based humanitarian organization Operation Blessing Tuesday and Wednesday to collect much-needed supplies to help victims of recent hurricanes across seven states.
Operation Blessing is in need of new and unopened diapers, (infant to adult), feminine hygiene products, wipes and infant formula.
To help with the donations, HRT employee volunteers accepted items at VB Wave trolleys parked at two locations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
- Hampton: 3400 Victoria Blvd.
- Norfolk: Armistead Avenue and 18th Street.
Operation Blessing was seeking new and unopened diapers (infant to adult), feminine hygiene products, wipes and infant formula as people recover from storm and flood damage.
“We encourage the community and our employees to come out and pack our iconic trolleys with urgent supplies to help those in need,” said HRT president and CEO William E. Harrell.
HRT said the hurricane relief supply drive collected 2,500 pounds in donations.
After the two-day event was complete, HRT delivered all the donations to Operation Blessing’s warehouse. The collection drive is part of the HRT Cares initiative, an employee group that supports employees and community organizations.
