CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A local nonprofit in Chesapeake had to close their doors momentarily because of a low stock of donations.

According to Buffalow Family and Friends Public Relations and Marketing Director Jonathan McNair, the food in their community pantry is running low.

“Normally it’s full to capacity, and we have reserves somewhere else,” McNair said.

He explained after a recent event where they gave out a lot of food and an overall lack of donations coming in, they made the decision to close their doors until Monday, Nov. 4 to get back on their feet.

“I was sad to hear it, because they do so much for the community,” said resident Sherry Cernak while she was dropping off donations Tuesday afternoon. “I appreciate them, and I just want to give back to them like they provided for us, at least what I can do anyway.”

McNair explained they’re hoping the temporary closure will give them enough time to replenish their stock to continue serving their community the way they do every day.

He added that with Thanksgiving right around the corner, they’re aiming to make sure everyone is fed. He hopes that by reaching out now, they will be able to get enough donations for the Thanksgiving at Buffalow season.

“No donation is too small, so whether it’s two cans of green beans or 50, we’ll take it all and make sure that the right person gets it here in Chesapeake, Virginia,” McNair said.

McNair said they accept donations at their location at 2403 Bainbridge Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23324. For more information on how you can donate, visit their website here.
