ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) — Two people accused of stealing from a liquor store and leading police on a chase have been arrested.
Police said on March 14 the suspects stole around $1300 worth of alcohol from the ABC Store on South Church Street and led officers on a 50-minute chase that injured two civilians.
The pursuit ended at the Surry County line, when the driver, Tia Browne, was arrested, and the man in the car with her jumped out and ran into the woods.
A day later, Smithfield police spotted the man, identified as Christopher Cheek, driving a stolen vehicle. Cheek led the officers on a pursuit from Smithfield to Suffolk.
At some point, police terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns. However, Flock cameras caught the vehicle entering Isle of Wight County and deputies began pursuit of Cheek.
The pursuit ended in the Hardees parking lot where Cheek was taken into custody by Isle of Wight Sheriff’s deputies.
Tia Browne faces charges including grand larceny, conspiracy to commit felony, felony evade and elude, and felony hit-and-run.
Cheek has been charged with grand larceny, conspiracy to commit felony, obstruction of justice, felony evade and elude, with additional charges from the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office pending confirmation.
