Fort Eustis service member charged after shooting in James City County

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – Police say one person was injured in a domestic-related shooting Sunday afternoon in James City County.

The suspect was identified as Rae’kwan Fulton, a 25-year-old active-duty service member stationed at Fort Eustis, who police say drove away from the scene in a white Toyota Tundra and across county lines.


The James City County Police Department, with the help of the Newport News Police Department, tracked down Fulton. He was detained by Newport News Police around 4 p.m. and then extradited to the James City County Law Enforcement Center. He’s charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police say the shooting happened around 3 p.m., with officers responding to the 1300 block of Queens Crossing, where they found one victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say the victim, Fulton’s spouse, was transported to an area hospital. The victim survived the shooting and the injuries were not life-threatening, JCC officials said in an update.

The incident is still under investigation.
