NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — There’s something about a lemonade stand that takes you back to your childhood.

And this weekend is your chance to take that nostalgic trip while helping fight cancer, as Anthem LemonAid stands will be popping up all over Hampton Roads, and they’re a cool way for kids to help other kids with cancer.

Anthem supplies the ingredients. Volunteer Denise Love packed the bags for pick-up at CHKD in Norfolk on Friday morning.

“They all get a pitcher cups, lemonade stickers, information on blood disorders, and it’s all for a great cause,” Love said.

Organizers expect up to 300 stands will pop up across Hampton Roads this weekend.

“I have a friend that their child was affected by childhood cancers and is thriving and doing well,” Love said. “And it’s just a great way to give back.”

Each cup purchased helps provide medical care and specialty treatments for the more than 500 cancer patients CHKD follows from newborns to their mid-20s.

“It can be a dollar, it can be $20, whatever you have,” said The King’s Daughters executive director Lisa Coleman. “And all of that money comes right back here to our Cancer and Blood Disorder Center.”

Every drop and every dollar count in the effort to squeeze out childhood cancer.

Anthem has helped CHKD raise over $1 million with its LemonAid events over the years.

If the weather is bad, look for the stands during the week or next weekend as well.
