Local events, school activities getting canceled due to weather

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Due to inclement weather, some local events this weekend are getting canceled, this also includes some after school activities.

Check back often to see additional cancelations this weekend.


Virginia Beach

Neptune Festival

The Neptune Festival is underway after inclement weather caused a delay as people were ordered to evacuate the Boardwalk because of lightning.

Poseidon’s Playground activities were canceled, but the concerts went on during the evening, with Anthony Rosano and The Conqueroos beginning at 7 p.m., and Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers taking the stage at 31st Street Park at 9 p.m.

At 24th Street Park, Girl Can’t Help It goes on at 7:30 p.m. and DJ AETGY takes the stage at 9:30 p.m. Activities Saturday and Sunday are still on, including its nighttime movie, Inside Out 2.

All other Neptune Festival events will go on as scheduled.

Chesapeake

Chesapeake Public Schools:

Due to inclement weather, all after-school and evening activities for Friday, Sept. 27, are canceled. YMCA child care and Boys and Girls Club will remain open this afternoon.

Norfolk

Norfolk Public Schools:

Due to impending weather conditions, all NPS’ after-school activities are canceled Friday. After school childcare programs will close at 5 p.m.

Norfolk Virginia Zoo “Zoovies”:

Due to weather and upon recommendation from the equipment company, the Zoovies event is postponed and rescheduled for Oct. 11.
All reservations and ticket purchases will be valid for the rescheduled date. If you purchased tickets and need additional assistance, please check your email for information and contact us no later than Oct. 2.

Suffolk

TGIF Fall Concert Series:

The City of Suffolk Parks & Recreation Department has canceled the TGIF Fall Concert Series scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27 due to impending inclement weather.

Elizabeth City

Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools:

ECPPS will be closed for students on Friday, Sept. 27, due to the possibility of severe weather resulting from Hurricane Helene.
