NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Portsmouth man accused of assaulting a fellow passenger on a cruise ship with a cocktail glass pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, resulting in serious bodily injury.
Michael Truman, 39, was being disruptive during a theater show on the Carnival “Magic” Cruise Ship on Oct. 20, 2023, according to court documents. He was asked a couple times by a fellow passenger to quiet down, but he refused. When the victim stood up to report it to an employee, Truman smashed a cocktail glass into the victim’s face, got on top of him and began beating him.
The assault resulted in the victim requiring more than a dozen stitches.
Truman is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 29, and faces a maximum of 10 years.
