NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to shooting a man last year during an argument in the Diggs Town neighborhood.

On Sept. 8, 2023, Darius Malik Davis shot a man he was loosely acquainted with through his girlfriend, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The two men began arguing inside Davis’ girlfriend’s apartment. The argument eventually spilled outside, where Davis shot the man before fleeing.

The bullet through went the victim’s hand and stomach, but he was able to call 911. When officers arrived on the scene, Davis’ girlfriend did not cooperate with police, prosecutors say. However, the victim was able to identify Davis as the person that shot him.

In October, police arrested Davis while he was at work. His employer later notified police that he found a handgun in a bag that Davis had left behind during his arrest.

Davis was charged with malicious wounding and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Commonwealth agreed to dismiss additional charges from the same incident against Davis.

“Nobody gets to settle an argument with gunfire,” said Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “Whatever Mr. Davis’ disagreement with the victim, he had no right to shoot him, and he is lucky that he did not kill him. We will continue to hold Mr. Davis accountable by seeking an appropriate prison sentence in November.”
