HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man was shot multiple times inside a vehicle on Rip Rap Road in Hampton late Wednesday night, police said.
Hampton Police said officers patrolling the area around 11:51 p.m. heard several gunshots, and, as they were checking the area, they found a vehicle in the 100 block of Rip Rap Road that had been struck by bullets.
A man was found inside the vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said, and he was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Hampton Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident, which police are describing as a maiming.

This follows the shooting of three people who were shot on West Mercury Boulevard in Hampton Tuesday.
Last month, a victim of a shooting in the 1300 block of Bethel Avenue was found walking in the 100 block of Rip Rap Road. That victim, police said, was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
In February, Hampton Police said a 15-year-old was shot in a drive-by shooting in the 1st of Green Street, north of downtown off Rip Rap Road.
