MIDDLESEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A murder charge was dismissed for one suspect in a homicide investigation in Middlesex County.
Kemonte Smith was one of five people charged in the death of Elijah Baker in March.
Court records show a charge of first-degree murder against Smith was nolle prossed — meaning the charge was essentially withdrawn or set aside, but can be brought back at a later time. It’s unclear why the charge was nolle prossed.
Authorities also charged 16-year-old Tariq Beane and three other suspects under 18 in connection to Beane’s murder.
Beane, who surrendered to authorities in Richmond, is charged with first-degree murder. The three juvenile suspects are charged with first-degree murder by mob.
