NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Six confined kittens were rescued from a wall in what the Newport News Animal Welfare Division calls an “exemplary display of inter-agency cooperation.”
Around 11:30 p.m. the AWD was dispatched to the location of the trapped kittens. Newport News police were already on the scene providing moral and tactical support.
Crews used an unorthodox technique to rescue the first two cats. Instead of breaking through the wall, they put cat food on an old towel to lure the cats out.
The Newport News Fire Department used advanced thermal imaging technology to identify the heat signatures of three additional kittens. A sixth cat was also rescued. The cats were lured out with a laser pointer.
All of the cats were transported to the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter.
