NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – The Virginia Peninsula Chamber, along with Christopher Newport University (CNU), announced on Tuesday the launch of an advanced leadership program.

According to a release, the program, titled LEAD Higher, is a 12-month long advanced leadership program designed to “cultivate and enhance leadership skills among emerging leaders in the community.”

The program will feature one day per month dedicated to a specific leadership principle, and will include instruction from CNU professors and leaders from the Commonwealth’s business community.

Applications for the program will start in January of 2025, and will be limited to only 25 participants. Those who are emerging leaders from the Virginia Peninsula business community, government agencies, non-profit organizations and academic institutions are the ideal participants for the program.

“Our goal is to equip participants with the tools they need to drive positive change within their organizations and the broader community,” Chamber President and CEO Bob McKenna said. ” Partnering with Christopher Newport University to offer this unique and innovative opportunity for emerging leaders really sets this program apart.”

The release also states that each graduate of the program will receive a micro-certification in order to symbolize each participants commitment to leadership excellence.

“This leadership development program illustrates how building the leaders of tomorrow requires academic institutions, business organizations and experienced professionals to come together today to help lead the way,” CNU’s Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Bob Colvin said. “CNU is eager to provide educational opportunities to a range of learners and we look forward to welcoming and engaging with the program’s first cohort.”
