NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Six people have been displaced and two pets have died after a house fire in Newport News early Friday morning.

According to officials, just after 1:40 a.m., crews with the Newport News Fire Department were dispatched to the 1000 block of 29th Street for reports of a structure fire.

Crews arrived to the scene and found heavy fire coming from the house. Through the use of three hose lines used to extinguish the fire, secure the stairwell and prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring houses, the fire was considered under control within 30 minutes.

Six people were displaced and two pets died due to the fire. No additional injuries were reported.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
