NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian.

On February 5, around 2 a.m. police responded to J Clyde Morris Boulevard and Thimble Shoals Boulevard in reference to an auto-pedestrian accident.

When officers arrived they found Robert Chambers, 76, of Newport News had been hit by a car. Chambers was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Police say Chambers was riding a bike when he was hit by a car. The driver remained on the scene.

Westbound J Clyde Morris Boulevard will be shut down at Thimble Shoals Boulevard from around 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday, February 9, for an additional investigation, according to police.
