NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two people, including a boy, were shot in Newport News Tuesday, with a man in critical condition, police said.
Newport News Police officers were sent to a business in the 3700 block of Marshall Avenue in reference to an attempted robbery, which police said escalated into a shooting.
10 On Your Side viewed the surveillance video for the robbery-turned-shooting. The two alleged robbers, a man and a boy, ended up at a hospital. The involved employees did not suffer any injuries.
It happened at Olde Towne Market off Marshall Avenue. Wednesday, it was closed until 1 p.m. as they cleaned up shattered glass and destroyed merchandise from the attempted robbery that happened Tuesday night.
The manager said none of his employees were shot, but they are still shaken up.
“They can still hear the gunshots,” said the Olde Towne Market manager, who asked to remain anonymous.
The manager shared screenshots from the surveillance video with 10 On Your Side.

“Two males came inside the store and demanded money from my employee. They went behind the counter,” said the manager.
The employees were held at gunpoint. The one in red runs behind the counter, and the man in black starts to fill his pockets and bags with cash.
Suddenly, a third man comes from the drink refrigerators and starts shooting.
“He saw both males were behind the counter, demanding the money [from] my clerk and not sure who started fighting first. But they start fighting each other,” said the manager.
The manager says 10 to 20 shots went off. And the aftermath is shattered glass countertops and a bullet hole in a drink fridge.
“And after that, just the other two persons left, and then the third person left,” said the manager.
The man in black tried to leave, but the third man ran after him, punched him, and took his gun. Due to his injuries, the man in black is seen on footage lying outside the market’s front doors. He was found by officers and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The manager said the boy in red ran off. Soon after, officers found a second shooting victim, the boy in red, in a vehicle near Harpersville Road and Lennon Drive. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening, police said.
On Wednesday, police told 10 On Your Side the juvenile has been released from the hospital and has been charged.
10 On Your Side reached out to Newport News Police regarding the third male. Police say they are still working to identify him; police do not believe he is part of the robbery.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
