NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a Newport News man is dead following a shooting on Arlington Avenue on Tuesday evening.

According to Assistant Police Chief Brandon Creswell, someone called dispatch for a shooting at the Cottage Grove apartments on Arlington Avenue at 10:50 p.m.

When officers got to the scene, they found a man inside of a black SUV suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. He later identified as 31-year-old Keian Meusa, of the first block of Traverse Road.

The vehicle was parked on a road between the apartment complex and the A&S convenience store. Crews towed away the truck for evidence around 5:30 a.m.

“We have a lot of leads we have to follow up on right now … we are in our very early stages in the investigation. Of course, these are very complex investigations. So, we have a lot of information that we need to track down,” Creswell said.

Creswell asks anyone who knows what led up to the shooting to call the Crime Line or the police department.
