NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News police are seeking the public’s assistance in solving the killing a 21-year-old man.
Antone Montana Artis died of a single gunshot wound on Nov. 10, 2022, police said. He was found by a fence line near an apartment complex. Officers were sent to the 700 block of Windy Way on Nov. 10 regarding a report of a person in need of medical assistance. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
There are still no answers more than three months later, and his family is urging the public to help solve the case.
“We just want justice. I know somebody out there, somebody knows something,” Patricia Artis said of her grandson’s death. “I hope someone will come forward, because somebody knows something,”
Artis said she can’t imagine why someone would have killed the 21-year-old.
“Why did you have to shoot him like a dog,” she said. “I don’t care what he could have done. He didn’t deserve to be shot like he did.”
His younger brother Domiyo said moving on without answers about his brother’s death is challenging.
“I think about it every day,” he said. “I can’t do nothing about it. And it hurts. I push it away.”
