NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a 17-year-old is dead and a 20-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries in a shooting in Newport News on Monday evening.

According to police, the call came in around 6:20 p.m. for the shooting in the 3400 block of Wickham Avenue.

When they got to the scene, officers found the 17-year-old male from Newport News suffering from gunshot wounds inside a home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim, a 20-year-old Hampton man, was found in the 800 block of 35th Street suffering from a gunshot wound. He was sent to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police have arrested 18-year-old Diontae Flythe, of the 3400 block of Roanoke Avenue. He’s been charged with first-degree homicide, aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling.
