NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Southern told WAVY that there was a train derailment the morning of Feb. 7.
Nine cars were derailed around 10 a.m. at Norfolk Terminal Lambert’s Point, officials said. All the cars involved were empty at the time, and no hazardous materials were involved.
Following the incident, Dominion Energy had put in an emergency work order in that area. It has since been updated. A train car broke a private utility pole owned by Norfolk Southern, and caused over 2,200 customers in the area to briefly lose power. Norfolk Southern repaired the pole with Dominion Energy’s assistance.
Power was restored shortly later when the energy was rerouted, according to Dominion Energy. The utility pole was fixed just after 12:15 p.m.
No injuries were reported. WAVY reached out about how this incident occurred, and Norfolk Southern said they don’t have information on cause as of around 2:30 p.m.
