NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — One person has been injured in a shooting in Newport News Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of 26th Street between Chestnut Avenue and Oak Avenue in the Chestnut area of the city at 4:50 p.m. and found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound believed to be non-life-threatening. The man was taken to a local hospital.

No suspect information is available at this time. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 911, the non-emergency number, 757-247-2500 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
