CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — No one was hurt after a home in Chesapeake caught fire Thursday afternoon.

It broke out after the home’s second floor just after 1 p.m. in the 1900 of Ardmore Avenue in the Portlock area. All the residents, including pets, were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived, and crews were able to bring the fire under control in 14 minutes.

They said the fire was contained to the room of origin, but the home had significant smoke damage. The seven occupants have been displaced but are being helped by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Chesapeake firefighters also responded to a fire Thursday morning in the Bowers Hill area. That fire was also contained to one room, and no injuries were reported. Eight residents were displaced.
