NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Nine people were displaced early Friday morning after a Norfolk apartment was damaged in a fire.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue officials said in a tweet firefighters responded to the 300 block of Fort Worth Avenue. Dispatch received a call just before 5:15 a.m.
WAVY’s Kiahnna Patterson reports a 12-year-old boy and his father were rescued from the flames.
A fire-rescue official confirmed the child was transported to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. The fire was marked under control around 6:05 a.m.
Three children and six adults were displaced by the fire.
City officials said E. Little Creek Road by Dallas Street and Fort Worth Avenue was closed due to the fire. Drivers are being asked to use Granby Street or Chesapeake Boulevard as alternartives.
The fire also impacted Route 8 buses with Hampton Roads Transit.
