NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Building Bosses Youth Empowerment Conference is underway at the Slover Library.
The goal is to uplift, educate, and inspire the youth.
Lindsey Anderson created Vision Driven 757 to empower and educate young people.
“We are trying to expose our kids to new opportunities, new journeys in life, new careers after high school, and new avenues,” said Anderson. “We just want to love on them and just spotlight them.”
About 200 kids signed up to be encouraged. Charnae Brickhouse submitted a video explaining how ‘to be the change’ the seventh grader won a new laptop for her video entry.
“Forgiveness and kindness are the biggest parts of changing the world,” said Brickhouse.
This is the fifth year of the day-long conference with guest speakers from Councilman John J.P. Paige to Monica Atkins the President of Stop the Violence 757.
“On a bigger scale, this is what we’re trying to do to combat [gang violence]. We’re even talking about gangs and gang violence and the negative effects,” said Anderson.
The day ends around 3 p.m. following a business pitch competition and 100 laptops will be distributed to several local nonprofit organizations.
