NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – This Saturday, Nauticus will kick off the Battleship Wisconsin’s 80th commissioning anniversary with a special onboarding celebration.

The USS Wisconsin will start off the yearlong celebration with a mix of special tours, workshops and events from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 13.

“On Saturday, guests will be able to learn more about the Battleship Wisconsin and honor all of her rich, floating history,” Director of Development and Marketing at Nauticus Rehn West said.

In addition to the celebration, guests will also be able to experience for the first time several newly restored onboard spaces, such as the Helo Control, Television Studio and Officer’s Country.

The schedule of events for the celebration can be found below:

  • WisKy Veteran Chat10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Meet and greet with Battleship Wisconsin veterans.
  • Enhanced Daily Programs – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Lean more during your visit to Nauticus with these tabletop demonstrations.
  • Free Sails with Sail Nauticus10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Experience 30 minuites of sailing on the Elizabeth River aboard a Sail Nauticus sailboat (first come first serve)
  • VIP Battleship Experience – 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.: Experience an exlusive guided tour hosted by Keith Nitka, Battleship Operations Manager, as he takes you on an in-depth exploration of the Wisconsin. Registration for this can be found here.
  • Workshop: Ice Cream!12 p.m. and 2 p.m.: Discover the fascinating history and science behind ice cream and learn how this dessert played a role in the U.S. victory during WWII. Registration for this can be found here.
