NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man received five life sentences plus 50 years this week for his role in a crime spree that included four murders, multiple attempted murders, robbery, attempted robbery and firearms offenses.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office cited court documents that said 26-year-old Nathaniel Tyree Mitchell, aka “Savage”, was convicted of several charges for the crimes, which stemmed from his involvement in the Nine Trey Gangsters, a street gang affiliated with the United Blood Nation.
The charges included four counts of murder in violation of the Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering Act (VICAR), six counts of VICAR attempted murder and five counts of VICAR assault with a dangerous weapon.
Mitchell and three others were indicted in 2016 in connection to the violent crime spree. Prosecutors said at the time the spree stemmed, in part, from a clash between two local sets of the Nine Trey Gangsters, one of which was led by Antonio Simmons.
Anthony Foye was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the crime in May 2018. Alvaughn Davis, pleaded guilty to charges in two gang-related murders, was sentenced to 45 years in prison in October 2017.
Simmons was faced with two mandatory life terms following his conviction in March 2018.
