NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man in Norfolk was found guilty of strangling his wife and abduction after refusing to let her leave their bedroom, a release states.
On April 2 leading into the next morning, 56-year-old Rayvon Kersey was arguing with his wife when the fight became physical. After holding her down on their bed and putting his hand around her neck, he strangled her while digging his nails in.
A couple minutes later, he stopped. The wife attempted to get up and leave, instead falling to the ground and passing out. After coming to, she tried to leave again to which Kersey responded by punching her in the jaw. He continued to assault her, including biting her finger, drawing blood.
Kersey threatened to kill her if she left, so she remained.
A week later, the victim decided to leave Kersey and went to an urgent care to seek treatment and help at a local domestic violence shelter. A detective later secured charges against Kersey.
Despite pleading not guilty, a judge found Kersey guilty of strangulation, abduction and domestic assault and battery.
During his testimony, Kersey only had admitted to restraining her by the shoulders on her bed, but failed to mention any other abuse.
