NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Officials said a lightning strike could’ve caused the fire in Norfolk that left eight individuals and their pets displaced on Wednesday.

Just before 5 p.m., Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to the report of a fire on the 1000 block of West 36th Street, officials said.

Fire crews found the fire in the attic of a duplex, possibly as a result of a lightning strike, officials said. The fire was extinguished and contained to the room of origin and the attic. Seven adults, one child, one cat and a dog are all displaced at a result. Red Cross is assisting all.
