NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk conducted a full-scale exercise at Ohef Sholom Temple simulating an active shooter and hostage situation on Aug. 11.

The exercise provided an opportunity for Norfolk Police and Norfolk Fire-Rescue to train together and enhance communication and public information efforts.

The drill was conducted in coordination with Ohef Sholom Temple, United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, Secure Community Network, Virginia State Police, Hampton Roads Transit and the Department of Homeland Security. The scenario was built on the 2018 mass casualty incident at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA.
