NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Improvements are underway at Norfolk International Airport.

Crews are replacing the loading bridges passengers use to get from the terminal to the plane. The repairs will allow pilots to shut off their engines while at the gate, reducing fuel burn and helping the environment.

Over the past five years, Norfolk International has invested $21 million to fix 21 jetways.

Airport officials say the upgrades will improve the customer experience.
