NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A 32-year-old Norfolk man is facing sexual assault charges involving a 7-year-old victim.
Norfolk Police took Travis Brown into custody Tuesday morning after spotting him in the 800 block of Leake Street. Court documents show that area as his home address. He tried to run from officers, but was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Police said his arrest is the result of an ongoing sexual assault investigation.
Brown has been charged with two counts of forcible sodomy, attempted forcible sodomy, abduction with intent to defile, and four counts of indecent liberties.
He was arraigned Wednesday morning and is currently being held in Norfolk City Jail without bond.
Brown also has warrants on file for other unrelated incidents in 2019, including drug possession, failure to appear on a felony charge, and a probation violation. His next court date on those charges is December 21.
In 2015, Brown was sentenced to two years in prison for a probation violation involving a felony offense.
In 2008, he pleaded guilty to armed robbery after he and two accomplices knocked someone off a bike near Tidewater Elementary School and robbed them of $250 and a mobile phone. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
Currently, Brown also has misdemeanor assault charges pending in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. A woman told police Brown was the father of her child and spit on her, punched her, and hit her with a TV remote cutting her lip, on two occasions in April and October of this year.
The investigation involving the charges of sex crimes with a child remains active. Anyone with information about this case should contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip through the P3Tips mobile app.
