NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk police are searching for a suspect they say broke into two businesses over the weekend.

According to police, officers responded on Apr. 15 to the Coach House Bar at 5103 Colley Ave., and Colley Executive Offices at 5215 Colley Ave.

Micahel Mahgerefteh, manager of CEO, is proud of the building’s extensive exterior lighting and the modern surveillance system, which captured images and video of the suspect.

“We have 24-hour flood lights illuminating the parking lot,” Mahgerefteh said. “This person damaged a computer monitor when he came in and that’s about it. He pretty much walked in, did a lap around the building, and noticed that there was no way he could get into any door because they are all individually locked.”

Police received reports that both businesses had been broken into overnight and that some items had been taken and damaged.

In a Facebook post from Coach House, they said the suspect pulled the restaurant’s security system off the wall and put it under running water.

Owner Kevin Kern told 10 On Your Side that after the suspect shattered a door and stormed inside, he went straight for the bar, where he stole or destroyed several bottles of liquor.

Kern, a Norfolk native, is grateful no one was hurt and he was able to reopen the restaurant Saturday evening.

“They can’t stop us,” Kern said. “We opened that night. We had to have a limited menu and we are obviously missing some liquor, but we had great support from all of our customers. (It) ended up being a great night for us.”
