NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — What do you do when you’re expecting something very important to arrive in your mailbox, and it doesn’t? What if it doesn’t come the next day, or even the next week after that? That’s the reality residents on St. Julian Avenue in Norfolk are facing, with little to no answers as to why.

Pamela Wilson, who has lived on St. Julian Avenue in Norfolk for 35 years, never had a problem with her mail delivery up until a few months ago.

“You don’t mind if it’s a week late, or even two weeks late, but to go months without getting your mail, and then your bills you’re trying to catch up [on] and send off your bills, it’s outrageous,” Wilson said.

She said the problem has gotten worse.

“I got mail on Monday, and up until then, I hadn’t gotten mail in about three four weeks,” Wilson said.

Wilson was directed to her local post office in search for answers, and is still waiting on a call back from staff. Her neighbors are also concerned.

“I’m on medication myself, so sometimes I’m like, ‘is it coming’ or things like that,” said resident Erica Hickman.

“My daughter, as it stands now, is missing two checks that are out there somewhere in the mail,” Wilson said.

Residents think the problem could be related to staffing challenges, or the fact that the mail sorting now takes place in Richmond and not locally.

“I’m not too confident in the mail system now,” Wilson said.

In a statement, Philip Bogenberger, the USPS representative for the North Carolina and Virginia districts, said”

“Customers in Norfolk should be experiencing regular mail and package delivery, and the route you referenced should have received normal delivery this week. We will continue to monitor this route to ensure delivery takes place each day. Customers with questions about their mail delivery can contact their local post office or call 1-800-Ask-USPS. We thank customers for their continued support”

Residents say they are still experiencing delays and hope things can get fully resolved soon.
