NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 20-year-old man is dead after being shot at Community Beach Park on East Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk Wednesday evening, police said.
Police said the call for the shooting came in around 6:20 p.m. for a shooting in the 700 block of East Ocean View Avenue, and they said the man, later identified as 20-year-old Andrew F. Saafi, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Saafi later died as a result of his injuries.
Witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting said they heard several shots ring out while they were just enjoying a quiet evening on the popular beach.
“We were just hanging out on the beach and then when we came back up here trying to leave it was all zoned off and we weren’t allowed to leave. So, apparently shots fired; people heard it,” said Ben Bilbrey.
Police said they are actively investigating.
