NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested a 37-year-old woman following a domestic-related shooting and barricade situation Tuesday night.

Police said a 37-year-old man was shot in the 100 block of Dover Circle on Tuesday and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He remains in the hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

“About 5:15 p.m. we get called out here for a man suffering from gunshot wounds,” Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot said. “Officers came out, rendered aid got him to an ambulance. He was taken off to a hospital. We find out it’s involving some kind of domestic violence situation.”

Neighbors said it was an unusual scene for the fairly quiet Norfolk East Belvedere neighborhood.

“In the few short months I’ve lived here, it’s been very quiet,” said William Denley. “You hardly ever see a police cruiser or anything like that, so yeah this has been quite the surprise.”

Police called the scene an active barricade situation, but later announced at 8:38 p.m. that the situation was resolved peacefully and that a woman was in custody.

On Wednesday, police identified the woman as Alanna K. Chace, 37, of Norfolk. Chace was taken to the hospital to be treated for self-inflicted injuries. She has been charged with malicious wounding, domestic assault, and use of a firearm.  Once released from the hospital, Chace will be transported to Norfolk City Jail.
