Police identify man found dead on Little Bay Avenue; death being investigated as homicide

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk police say they’re investigating a homicide after a man was found dead Thursday in Ocean View.

Police and EMS responded for a welfare check just after 12:30 p.m. Thursday at an apartment in the 1000 block of Little Bay Avenue.

The man was found unresponsive inside an apartment and pronounced dead.

Police on Friday evening, police identified the victim as 50-year-old Michael D. Mizzell.

Detectives say the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has classified the man’s death as a homicide.

A neighbor told 10 On Your side the victim was quiet and drove an elaborate Escalade.

“I don’t know exactly what he did for his work or whatever but you don’t drive those vehicles on a basic income,” Brenda Reiver said.

She also told us that she witnessed a scary situation outside of the victim’s apartment about a week and a half ago when two men pulled up in another dark-colored Escalade around 10:30 p.m. She said one got out and started an argument.

“And then went over there and was trying to kick the door in and then they came back out and they shot up the guy’s vehicle.”
