NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — After making it through several past pandemics, the Naro Cinema wasn’t going down without a fight after being forced to close their doors following the spread of the coronavirus.
The Norfolk-based movie theater has been open since 1936 and has been through it all. Now, in the year 2020, the movie group is learning to adapt to coronavirus closures by siding with technology.
The Naro is currently working with movie distributors to bring a streaming cinema platform so that you can continue to view new releases from the safety of your own home while also supporting the Naro.
We are very much looking forward to resuming normal operations in the future, and continuing our FlickIt Fridays at Naro movie nights to support local non-profits. Until then, we are in the same position as many of our local businesses in the area — we are doing our best to stay afloat while keeping our community safe (and entertained for as long as possible).

According to the theater, distributors have stepped up and are offering the new service to help out small, independent theaters across the country.
On top of the transition, home-viewers are also invited to pick up their favorite concessions at the Naro, but then have to head home to watch the night’s show.
They’ve titled the new tradition ‘The Popcorn Speakeasy‘ with hours tailored to the movie times.
