NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Zoo encourages parent to bring their children to a “beary” special event.

On Saturday, Aug. 17, the zoo will hold a teddy bear clinic for kids to learn about the importance of medical care.

The goal of the clinic is to help reduce anxiety that kids often associate with doctor visits by letting them express themselves through play.

During the event, kids will pretend to be doctors as they take an x-ray, measure vital signs, evaluate sensory functions and more.

Children are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal from home, but a limited quantity will be available for free giveaway while supplies last.

The clinic is free with Zoo admission from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
