NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Fire-Rescue (NFR) responded to a water rescue near Broad Creek Bridge in Norfolk Tuesday morning.

According to officials, crews were dispatched to Broad Creek Bridge on I-264 just after 6:30 a.m.

They arrived to the scene and found that a male subject had jumped off of the bridge and swam towards a channel marker.

A Zodiac rescue boat was launched from a remote location to rescue the victim, according to NFR.

The subject was transferred to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Virginia State Police said this was an attempted suicide.

The east right center lane, right lane and right shoulder were closed on I-264 near Broad Creek Bridge during the rescue. All lanes have since reopened.
