NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police continue to investigate after a woman’s body was found Sunday morning on the beach in Ocean View.
A Norfolk police spokesperson said the body was found around 7:40 a.m. in the 1800 block of E. Ocean View Ave., near Grove Avenue.
The woman was unresponsive when police arrived, and she was declared dead at the scene.
Her identity and the manner and cause of her death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office, police said. At this time, the case is being classified as an undetermined death.
Nzinga Henderson lives off of Grove Avenue, where the woman was found.
“We walk on the beach all the time around here,” Henderson told 10 On Your Side. “I’m shocked. I’ve never heard of anything like that happening out here and I’ve been here almost four years.”
Henderson’s neighbor said she stepped out onto her deck around 8 a.m. and saw a naked Caucasian woman frozen in the sand with several police officers nearby. She ran inside to make sure her children were safe and that they didn’t see the body.
Henderson couldn’t help but think of the man who drove off of the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier more than a week ago.
“I wonder where this body washed up from,” Henderson said. “That’s quite bizarre. The only thing I’ve ever heard washing up over there was a turtle and I’ve seen that, but never a body so that’s kind of scary.
