NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A now-former deputy in Northampton County is in trouble after being accused of sex crimes while he worked at a local jail.
According to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy has been identified as 28-year-old Hector Luis Rosa Jr., who is no longer employed with the sheriff’s office after charges of sexual assault that go back to April, while he was a correctional officer assigned to the Eastern Shore Regional Jail.
Virginia State Police is investigating Rosa on the sex charges. The sheriff’s office received allegations against Rosa on April 5. Due to the nature of the complaint, Rosa was immediately placed on administrative leave.
Rosa was charged with one count of sexual battery, one count of abduct with intent to defile and one count of object sexual penetration by force. He turned himself in to state police on Tuesday, July 9. The sheriff’s office confirmed he was released on a secured bond the same day.
Due to the criminal aspect of the investigation, no additional details are being released at this time. Sheriff David Doughty stated that further information will be made available at a later date.
Rosa had been employed with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office since 2018.
