Suffolk man dead after two-vehicle crash in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — A 24-year-old Suffolk man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Williamsburg, according to officials.

It happened just before 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at the intersection of Capitol Landing Road and Jefferson Street.


A preliminary investigation revealed that Alan Smith, the operator of a Toyota SUV, was traveling on Jefferson Street when he came upon the Capitol Landing Road intersection that has a ‘No Left Turn’ sign visibly showing.

Smith proceeded into the intersection and attempted to make a left turn, but was struck by Marcelino Manuel Johnson, the driver of a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage.

Johnson went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to Riverside Doctors’ Hospital, where he eventually died.

It is unknown at this time if speed was a contributing factor of the crash, however Johnson was not wearing his seatbelt when the incident occurred.

Smith was charged with reckless Driving.
