SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 63-year-old man was shot and killed inside a Pine Street residence Monday evening in Suffolk, police said.

Police got a call around 9:15 p.m. for a person suffering a gunshot wound inside a home in the 100 block of Pine Street, between West Washington Street and Market Street, less than a half-mile from Suffolk Police headquarters and North Main Street.

When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from a single gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, Jan. 3, police identified the 63-year-old man as Sherman Lee Perry of Suffolk.

A neighbor WAVY spoke with Tuesday morning said he heard one gunshot.

“Another neighbor says he heard like one shot and a couple more after that. Then we heard that he had got shot outside the window or something like that. I saw them [police] bringing somebody out on the stretcher, but they was covered up. And then my sister had heard that he had got killed. I saw him the day before yesterday putting clothes in his car,” said Tyrese Pharrell.

Police said they have no suspect information at this time and are continuing their investigation.
