PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A mother is dead, and the father of one of her children has been charged with killing her while she was pregnant.

Thursday, Portsmouth Police announced they arrested Hasheed Ali Mills, 30, and charged him with aggravated murder of a pregnant woman, use of a firearm, abuse of a child causing serious injury, shooting in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He allegedly shot and killed Shaquana Deborah Jordan, 30 on at the Chesapeake Pointe Apartments Wednesday night, according to police.

Mills has also been charged with with abuse and neglect of a child.

A child was at the scene of the crime, according to a police spokesperson. However, they couldn’t say the age of the child or if the child witnessed the shooting.

Jordan’s death brings to an end a relationship marred by domestic violence, according to court records.

Police were initially called to the 6700 block of Kenny Lane for a domestic violence call just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Arriving officers found Jordan suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. After attempting to provide lifesaving measures, Jordan was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.

A neighbor who didn’t wish to be identified told 10 On Your Side that while the she heard the gunshots, she often heard the couple.

“I mean, I figured it was probably just a domestic issue because I’ve seen people fighting over there before,” the neighbor said. “But yeah, it was scary and it freaked me out pretty good.”

Within the last year, Mills was charged three times with domestic assault toward Jordan and had protective orders issued against him.

On one occasion, a criminal complaint stated an argument in a moving car escalated, with Jordan throwing a drink on Mills, who was then accused of pushing Jordan out of the moving car on 164.

In another instance, Mills was accused of punching Jordan in the face and pulling her hair, “causing a bald spot.”

Just last month, Jordan told police that Mills threated to kill her multiple times.

Jordan was also charged last year with malicious wounding after documents state she stabbed Mills with a screwdriver.

Mills has been convicted of a assault in the past and also served time in federal prison for drug charges.

He declined an interview from jail.

Portsmouth Police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
