PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting of a passing vehicle on High Street Thursday morning, Portsmouth Police said.
Police did not identify the man or state his charges, but said they spoke with two witnesses of the incident — one they said was the alleged shooter’s intended target, and a bystander whose window and front driver’s seat were hit by bullets during the incident — who helped them find the suspect.
Witnesses described the shooter as a Black man with short locs, and police said that, as officers were patrolling the downtown area while looking for a person who matched the description, they spotted the suspect on King Street.
Police said that, after victim verification, the unidentified man was arrested and booked within 90 minutes of the initial call.
