PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A death investigation is underway after a landscaping crew found a decomposed body the morning of August 25 in Portsmouth, police say.
On Sept. 8, Portsmouth Police confirmed the remains have been identified as 78-year-old Roger Hammond. His next of kin have been notified of his death.
Lt. Jeffrey Branch with Portsmouth PD said police responded to the 2500 block of Frederick Blvd. (near Bagley Street and Knox Street) at 9:40 a.m. for the report of a body found at that location.
WAVY first reported in May that Hammond had been reported missing and was last seen near the 3600 block of High Street on May 2.
No other details are available in the case at this time.
