Police ID man who died following shooting on King St in Portsmouth; homicide investigation underway

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth Police have identified the man who died as a result of injuries suffered as the result of an incident near the 4100 block of King Street.

Ronnie Trewren, 46, had walked into a local hospital Monday with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police said his injuries proved fatal and his next of kin was notified.


Police in Portsmouth said they are investigating a homicide following the incident Monday evening.

According to police, the call for the initial report came in just before 9 p.m. Monday regarding a man who had walked into a local hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police say he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators say the initial incident occurred near the 4100 block of King Street.

Portsmouth Police say they have identified a person of interest in connection with the shooting, however, suspect information has not yet been released.
